I am writing this in March 2025, as the Spring sunshine streams through the garden-facing window, illuminating my back room with its warm and hopeful glow. From my position here, looking back through the last twenty-six years, I can see that I have been influenced by many Suffolk artists, some of whom have opened up opportunities for me that I would never have dreamed possible when I arrived in this house.
I met Gareth Jones, a talented printmaker who taught me all about his practice – I am still printmaking at his studio today, the Sudbourne Park Printmakers. I met Laurence Edwards who gave me a studio in 2003 at Butley Mills. He and his fellow bronze-casters showed me how to cast bronze and I stayed at Butley for twenty years, experimenting and playing with this fascinating medium. More recently, I met Ruth Wharrier, who taught me Botanical drawing and watercolour illustration, a technique I have wanted to learn for years … and finally have.
How lucky I am to have taken that step.
And to have met the people who have since shaped my identity as an artist. They have introduced me to different processes that became all-consuming and have kept me busy and inspired for the last twenty-six years.
This Portfolio of artwork is a window into some of this work. I hope you enjoy it, as I have had a wonderful time making it all.
